How Do You Fabricate Stainless Steel Checkered Plate?

The production processes of stainless steel checkered plates are of two different kinds.

When producing stainless steel, the plate is rolled by the rolling mill with a thickness of about 3-6mm that is annealed and pickled after hot rolling.

  • Stainless steel billet
  • Hot rolling
  • Hot annealing and pickling line
  • Leveling machine, tension leveler, polishing line
  • Cross-cutting line
  • Hot-rolled stainless steel checkered plate.

The first kind is patterned on one side and flat on the other side and is used where strength is required e.g. in railway vehicles, chemical industry, and platforms.

Normally, the second kind of stainless steel is stamped mechanically by either hot rolling or cold rolling.

They are convex on one side and concave on the other side mostly used for decoration purposes.

What Are The Types Of Stainless Steel Checkered Plate?
  • Austenitic stainless steel
  • Martensitic stainless steel
  • Ferritic stainless steel
  • Duplex stainless steel
How Do You Calculate Weight Of Stainless Steel Checkered Plate?

Calculate the weight of the stainless steel checkered plate by multiplying the volume by the density.

The weights of the pates differ because different material grades have different densities.

How Do You Cut Stainless Steel Checkered Plate To Size?
  • Prepare the workspace

Take a robust and rigid workbench to get a stable cutting.

  • Measurements

Use a measuring tape for the region you need to cut to get the exact estimation.

Mark out points you want to miss using markers.

For straight lines, use a ruler or try square to get an accurate cut.

  • Cutting

Choose the right and most suitable stainless steel checkered plate cutting tool.

Different stainless steel plates either thin or thick require different cutting tools, e.g, circular saw, plasma cutters, etc.

a) Circular saw

It is a machine used for cutting steel with great thickness.

Get a stainless steel cutting blade.

Turn on the saw.

Let the saw run for some time before you start cutting.

Lower the saw blade carefully on your steel to cut.

b) A plasma cutter

This machine uses compressed air to make cuts on materials.

Connect the cutter to a pressured cylinder and turn on the switch.

Set the current about 25 or 20 gauge.

Turn on the cutter.

Move the torch across or along the material to be cut.

Move slow and stably to get the best result.

  • Clean the edges

Tidy up all edges using a hand file or a debarring tool to give your work a professional look.

Are There Quality Standards Stainless Steel Checkered Must Comply With?
  • ASTM-A-240
  • ASME-SA-240
Stainless Steel Checkered Plate Vs Mild Steel Checkered Plate?

Stainless steel checkered plates are stronger due to their chromium alloy content which withstands impactful force. Whereas mild steel has a relatively lower tensile strength that can undergo strengthening when carbon is added.

The cost of mild stainless steel is cheaper compared to stainless steel but stainless steel is a good investment in the long run because it does not break down easily.

Corrosion Resistance

Mild steel surfaces rust rapidly and therefore need protection from corrosion e.g. painting, or galvanizing.  While stainless Steel has chromium which forms a layer the first time it reacts with air that renders it corrosion-resistant.

Stainless steel is tougher than mild steel due to its ability to absorb energy and deform plastically before fracture.

With a high impact force, stainless steel tends to break rather than bend.Whereas mild Steel bend rather than break when exposed to a higher impact force making it less brittle.

It is easy to change mild steel into different shapes without breaking due to its twisting and stretching ability. Unlike stainless steel which is less ductile and thus hard to twist or deform once designed into a particular shape.

Mild steel makes a good fabrication material because it is easy to roll into pipes, twist, drill through, cut, and weld. While with stainless steel you need skilled technicians and high-technology machines.

High carbon and chromium alloy quantities in stainless steel make them harder than mild steel.

Mild steel is flexible compared to stainless steel, it can be beaten into a new shape without cracking or breaking thus more malleable.

Stainless steel is more durable than mild steel because of its high rust-resistant properties and other destructive forces.

Stainless steel is strong but with less density as compared to mild steel.

Stainless steel is durable and more recycled than mild steel thus serving many generations and still useful for other purposes.

Is the checkered plate the same as a diamond plate?

Checker plate, diamond plate, or thread plate does not have differences except in its name. These three names can be used and refer to any shape of plate material.

Does checkered plate rust?

The checkered plate does rust unless it is made with various grades of stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and other rust-resistant material. For some applications that expose wetness and other liquid matter, better to use stainless steel, aluminum, and other rust resistance type of metals.

Is stainless steel checkered plate strong?

Compared to other anti-rust materials checkered plate-like aluminum made or copper made, stainless steel checkered plate is stronger than them.

What is the common size of a checkered plate?

The standard size of a checkered or diamond plate is 48 inches x 96 inches or 4 ft x 8 ft.

What is the common grade of stainless steel made by a checkered plate?

SS 304, SS 316, and SS 304L is the three common grade of stainless checkered plate.
